Calgary to Jasper

Why people book this route

Jasper isn't a quick day trip. It's roughly four and a half hours each way before stops. Same-day return is possible, but for a sightseeing trip we'd usually suggest an overnight stay so the drive doesn't take over the day.

How it's usually booked

A simple one-way transfer is booked like any other route. A same-day return, sightseeing stops, or a custom itinerary is arranged as a custom trip, with the waiting arrangement agreed when it's booked. It's never assumed as unlimited hourly waiting.

Jasper to Calgary, including drops at YYC, runs the same as the trip out — the same roughly four-and-a-half-hour drive, booked as its own point-to-point transfer.

Along the way

This route runs through Banff National Park and onto the Icefields Parkway, one of the most scenic drives in the world, passing the Columbia Icefield and glacier-fed lakes before descending into Jasper National Park. It's the longest of the four routes by a wide margin, and the scenery is the reason people book it rather than fly.

Good to know

A Parks Canada entry fee applies for the stretch through Banff and Jasper National Parks. Cell coverage is patchy for long stretches of the Icefields Parkway itself, and fuel/rest stops are more spread out than on the shorter routes, so let us know if you'd like a specific stop built into the schedule. Winter travel on this route is the most weather-dependent of the four.
